TOURISMO: Third Project Steering Committee Meeting in Limassol, Cyprus
From March 26 to 27, the third Project Steering Committee Meeting of TOURISMO, co-financed by the Interreg Euro-MED program, took place in Limassol, Cyprus. Partners from several Mediterranean EU countries (Bulgaria, Cyprus, Croatia, Greece, Italy, Malta, Spain) gathered to review ongoing activities and plan the next steps.
The Fondazione per la Ricerca e l’Innovazione presented updates on the Florence pilot, one of the project’s eight experimental sites, alongside:
- Varna, Bulgaria
- Port of Limassol, Cyprus
- Bisevo Island, Croatia
- Rhodes, Greece
- Golden Bay Beach, Malta
- Port and City of Valencia, Spain
The 33-month project, now in its third semester, has entered a crucial phase: the eight pilot sites have started—or already completed—the installation of new technologies to monitor tourist flows and environmental parameters. Installed devices include thermal cameras, Wi-Fi sniffers, pax counters, monitors, and environmental sensors.
The goal is to provide public decision-makers with concrete tools to better understand territorial dynamics and take evidence-based, locally tailored actions.
Data Analysis and Tools
In the coming months, all pilot sites will generate large volumes of data, not only from installed sensors but also from historical sources. These data will feed into the Snap4City platform, developed by the DISIT Lab, where they will be processed and visualized through interactive dashboards, offering in-depth insights into tourist dynamics in the monitored areas.
A key innovation under development is a sentiment analysis tool, designed to enhance the project by collecting and analyzing tourist satisfaction in the different locations.
The tool will be able to:
- Centralize the collection of short tourist experience questionnaires.
- Geolocate responses based on the relevant area.
- Generate personalized QR codes to promote questionnaires on-site.
- Organize and store collected data.
- Analyze sentiment trends over time, providing actionable insights for tourism management strategies.
