Reskilling Crafts

Innovation and Tradition for the Craftsmanship of the Future

Reskilling Crafts

The European project Reskilling Crafts aims to strengthen the craft sector through digital and sustainable transformation.

The European craft sector faces an urgent challenge: an estimated 133,000 jobs are expected to be lost by 2035, while more than 387,000 new positions will open due to retirements. At the same time, nearly half of Europe’s adult population—particularly low-skilled individuals—represents a largely untapped talent pool.

To bridge this gap, Reskilling Crafts develops innovative and inclusive reskilling labs that prepare adults for the professions of the future by combining tradition, digital skills, and green competencies.

The project’s main objectives are:

  • Establish the European Crafts Sector Reskilling Alliance (ECSRA) to foster collaboration between public and private stakeholders and promote upskilling and reskilling initiatives across Europe.
  • Develop a Strategic Plan for the craft sector, mapping future skills and needs and guiding the creation of tailored labs.
  • Implement an inclusive and engaging communication strategy capable of influencing policy and promoting cultural preservation.
  • Create the CRAFTS Reskilling Labs Platform, featuring training content, career guidance tools, micro-credentialing systems, and real-time skills analysis.
  • Pilot the Reskilling Labs in real-world contexts, including educator training and company-based sessions, testing and refining new training approaches.
  • Ensure continuous monitoring and evaluation throughout the project and beyond.

The objectives of the Reskilling Crafts Alliance:

  • Build a collaborative European network of key stakeholders to support reskilling.
  • Promote strategic engagement and active participation of members.
  • Ensure effective and transparent communication among partners and stakeholders.
  • Define clear roles, responsibilities, and engagement mechanisms in the design and implementation of activities.
  • Support policy dialogue and advocacy, influencing training strategies and contributing to the future of the digital and green craft sector.
  • Leverage expert knowledge through the establishment of an Expert Board Committee (EBC).
